1. Yellow River Iron Bridge (Zhongshan Bridge): Known as "The First Bridge over the Yellow River", it is Lanzhou's city landmark. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, it is the first modern iron bridge on the Yellow River. Standing on the bridge, you overlook rolling Yellow River and feel the gateway atmosphere of the eastern Hexi Corridor.

2. Mother Yellow River Sculpture: Iconic statue symbolizing the Yellow River, mother river of Chinese civilisation, which nurtured multiple ethnic groups along Hexi Corridor.

3. Five Springs Mountain Park: Ancient garden with Ming and Qing buildings. Climb up to overlook Lanzhou city and Yellow River valley.

1. Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple: Founded in 1098 during Western Xia Dynasty, it used to be the imperial temple of Western Xia regime. Its treasure is the giant indoor reclining Buddha (34.5 meters long), one of the largest clay sleeping Buddha statues in Asia. Murals inside include classic stories from Journey to the West. It preserves thousands of precious ancient Buddhist scriptures and is an important origin of Silk Road Buddhist art.

1. Sunan Yugur Ethnic Village: Yugur people are a rare nomadic minority only living at the foot of Qilian Mountains, descendants of ancient Uyghur tribes. They have no written language and pass down culture by oral tradition. Visit yurts, see traditional costumes, taste dairy food and learn their nomadic lifestyle against the snow-capped Qilian mountain backdrop.

2. Zhangye Rainbow Danxia (Colorful Danxia): Ranked among top 10 geowonders by National Geographic. It is a unique combination of Danxia rock and colorful hill landforms formed over hundreds of millions of years. Layered rocks show stunning stripes of red, orange, gold and purple, like a natural painter's palette. The best viewing platform offers spectacular sunset shots when sunlight brightens the coloured mountains.

1. Jiayuguan Fort: It marks the western terminus of the Ming Great Wall, the most complete military fortress on the whole Hexi Corridor. As the official border checkpoint of ancient Silk Road, every merchant, envoy and caravan heading west had to pass this gate. The whole defensive system including inner city, outer city, moat and watchtowers is well-preserved. Standing on the tower, you can view boundless Gobi desert and Qilian snow mountains.

2. Overhanging Great Wall: This segment of Great Wall clings to steep mountain cliffs, built to guard the mountain pass. Hike along the wall and enjoy a panoramic view over vast Gobi, showing ancient military wisdom of using natural cliffs for defence.

1. Mogao Caves (Caves of Thousand Buddhas, UNESCO World Heritage): Known as Oriental Louvre, it is the peak achievement of Silk Road Buddhist art. Carved continuously from 4th to 14th century over 1000 years. Hundreds of caves preserve massive exquisite murals and Buddha sculptures. The famous Flying Apsaras murals record Silk Road trade, religious tales and daily life of ancient travellers. The discovery of Library Cave founded the global academic study "Dunhuangology". Important reminder: Flash photography is strictly forbidden inside caves; Class A tickets must be booked in advance 30 days.

2. Shazhou Night Market: Dunhuang's bustling night market filled with northwest barbecue, apricot skin tea and local handicrafts, perfect for experiencing lively oasis night culture.

This natural miracle sits on the edge of Dunhuang town, close to Mogao Caves, forming the twin signature landscapes of Dunhuang.
